The lack of planning in the cities of developing countries has become a socio-environmental problem. The city of Neiva shows problems in relation to land use, the alteration of natural resources and the reduction of public space in the urban area. The generation of adequate spaces with socio-environmental criteria for demographic growth is sought, generating a projection of the territorial ordering of the municipality. Through the Geographic Information Systems, criteria parameters supplied by the planning office of the Huila government were included, using diffuse superposition, for the identification of suitable areas for demographic expansion, evidencing that the urban and suburban area of the municipality , has a 3% area for optimal areas, 22% area for good areas, determining that expansion to the south and east of the environmentally responsible city can be carried out.en-US
