This paper discusses about the scope and emphasis of the action research developed in the field of communication, and also presents research trends in Antioquia-Colombia. It is found that the subfields where more investigation is being conducted are: organizational communication, socio cultural studies and educommunication, and the emerging topics of research interest such as: communication and entrepreneurship, marketing communication, audiovisual, communication and family development, as well as communication, technology and development.en-US
